Microstrip antennas are widely used in 100MHZ-100GHZ wireless communication devices, such as their small sizes, light weight, with the carrier (vehicle) conformal, easily integrated with active devices and circuit components, and so on. Microwave integrated technology, and a variety of materials with low dielectric loss occurs, microstrip antenna production process is greatly guaranteed. Moreover, the development of space technology, and the urgent need for low profile antenna, microstrip antenna is rapidly developed. Especially with the rapid development of wireless communication industry, the miniaturization of microstrip antennas, dual band and circular polarization techniques become a hot research at home and abroad. Especially with the rapid development of global positioning system in the world, China's Compass navigation is gradually developed and perfected, Microstrip antenna are widely used in the field of satellite communications and satellite navigation. With multi-mode satellite navigation technology, antenna design which can receive multiple satellite signals band ,has been highlighted. In particular, circularly polarized microstrip antenna has some significant advantages.This paper reviews the rapidly developing theory of microstrip antenna technology and new progress, particularly focused on the progress of single-fed and single-layer microstrip antenna, Eg: multi-band, circular polarization and other technological advances. In this paper, a square patch antenna is utilized to realize the dual circular polarization, and four folded cross slots are embedded in the patch, and single-point coaxial feed to realize the miniaturization, compact in structure and easy to process. And compared the original antenna with the new one via different parameters , antenna radiation without affecting the performance of the conditions, but the antenna size is greatly reduced. Use Ansoft HFSS--- electromagnetic simulation software to design antenna and give the details of experimental results, simultaneously prove the feasibility of the design. In connection with GPS antenna, besides the original design, the paper introduces other new methods to perfect the design and attach specific test results.The article aims at designing a dual-band circular polarized antenna, to meet with the global positioning satellite navigation system and the needs of Compass, working in 1.575GHZ and 1.268GHZ two bands. In order to achieve the dual-band, introduce a kind of microstrip antenna with dual-stack circularly polarized compact, can attain circular polarization in any frequency interval of two bands in theory. Additionally, place several ways to miniaturize the antenna design. For example, dig a slot , increase dielectric permittivity , short circuit load, additional active networks, and maintain the inherent advantages of antenna , ease of processing and debugging,suitable for mass production, not only meet the needs of engineering ,but also has some reference and scalability. This antenna has great important practical value in the dual-band circularly polarized system, and has been expanded in GPS / Compass navigation and other systems.
