Medical image post-processing technique is an important application of modern medical imaging and computer technology in biomedical engineering, as well as one of the fastest growing areas in current medical technology. The technology has been developed for many years in foreign countries, while it is just at the initial stage in our country. One important reason of constraining its development is the application of post-processing technology, of which the most critical factor is to extract more information form these raw images through a simple operation to further improve the diagnosis.Currently, some research institutions and large medical units have gradually turn to focus on three-dimensional image reconstruction, image fusion and visualization techniques. However, the professional image processing and analysis software that is popular enough now and has the same standards, is still blank. Because of the differences of the equipments and software in major hospitals, the medical image processing method is difficult to achieve, and the effects cannot be approved universally. The MATLAB software is fully capable of meeting the initial medical image processing requirements of image doctors. The unified process and the results of it have great value to the research of late-stage three-dimensional reconstruction of the image and visualization technology.This dissertation makes a comparative study of the process and results of the MATLAB Image Processing Toolbox for medical image noise smoothing, edge extraction and other image processing, then verify the effectiveness of various methods, while selecting the most optimal approach. Moreover, in allusion to the characteristics of the image doctors, the non-programmers, it explains the way of self-fulling all the processing through the MATLAB and the way that facilitates the doctors to study and improvment of processing on their own. These have an practical significance to the research of medical two-dimensional digital image processing.
