Transmission is one of the key parts of automobile driving system. Its main function is to change torque and rotational speed from engine and to meet the requirements of tractive force. Mechanical Transmission is widely used in different kinds of automobiles because it has many advantages such as simple structure, high transmission efficiency, low cost in manufacture and working reliability. So it will play a dominant role in the system of transmission for a long time in the future. Virtual prototyping, as a kind of brand-new products development approach, compares with traditional design method, it can not only revise and design conveniently through virtual prototype before making physics prototype actually, shorten products development period, lower costs, and can also improve the properties of product, strengthen the market competitiveness, accelerate the transformation from new technology to new products. It is very important meaning of using virtual prototyping to carry on the systematic design and performance emulation in Transmission and seeking optimization design of the products.By the use of the two softwares-Pro/E and ADAMS, this paper has established virtual prototype model of one certain type of the transmission, realized virtual assembly and completed the work of systematic emulation. Content of studying in this paper includes mainly as following: Using the integration feature of virtual prototype technology, the virtual prototype of the transmission has been established by dynamic analysis and simulation in ADAMS which is combined with three-dimension model completed in Pro/E. Discussed the model data conversion between Pro/E and ADAMS software, and the paper has succeeded in finishing the conversion geometry model between the two kinds of software by the use of Mechanism/pro. Discussed the means used to build the virtual prototype of complex mechanical system in the software-integrated environment which proved to be reliable and finished to establish the virtual prototype of transmission. And then the emulation of the virtual prototype of transmission is made in the area of dynamics and stability. There are summaries in the end of the paper and the prospects are pointed out.
