With the acceleration of economic globalization, the open of China's capital market, especially the financial crisis since 1990s, financial crisis has become one of the most popular topics of China. Since 1990s, Japanese economy has remained in stagnant; in 2004, Japan's economy got a temporary recovery, but after that, a continuous decline got Japan's economic condition unclear again.Japan is closely next to China, and it is one of China's most important import and export countries, in this view, Japan's economy is closely related to China. Additionally, China and Japan are all in the East Asian culture, and have a similar background. In recent years, China's financial reform learned a lot from Japan, of which are some actions Japan is to reform too, such as main bank system. So Japan's lesson from main bank system is important for economic transaction in developing countries, especially China.This thesis is dividend into 4 parts. The first part analyses the origin and development of Japan's main bank system from pre World War II to post. The second part analyses the effect of main bank system and its mechanism. The third part contains the reform of main bank system under new economic environment and the reason why the process is relatively slow as well as the foreground of its reform. The 4th part is the comment of main bank system and its illuminations to us. It contains the mechanism of how the main back system triggered the Japanese financial crisis and the illuminations to us.
