Performance management is an important element in bank management. Traditional performance management methods cannot fulfill bank requirements in a keen competition environment. Therefore, commercial bank needs to use new performance management tools in order to establish a performance management system that can carry out and realize its long-term strategic targets.Based on the above viewpoint, the thesis studies the content of performance management in commercial bank. Firstly, through describes the essence of performance management and introduces commercial bank traditional performance management tools, the thesis analyses the limitations and shortcomings of traditional performance management tools. Then, it expounds the necessity and feasibility to use Balanced Scorecard (BSC) performance management system according to the characteristics of commercial bank and the content of BSC. Moreover, the thesis also states how to design the BSC performance management system in a particular commercial bank and thus describes the detail steps to establish and use BSC performance management system. Finally, the thesis will evaluate the deficiencies of BSC and state how to improve the functions of BSC.
