The need for electronic business emerged as the times require. The first e-bank was founded in 1995, while the first e-bank in China was founded in 1998. The founder was The China Merchants Bank. As we all know, the history of the emergence and development of modern commercial bank in China is more than 100 years shorter than that in western countries. There are great differences not only in scale and management but also in the kinds of business. However, as for the development of e-bank, we are on the same stage as the most advanced banks in the world. Therefore, e-bank provides us with a valuable opportunity to keep pace with them. Facing the challenge of joining WTO, the commercial banks in China should grasp the opportunity to enhance the ability of competition, and try to keep ahead in the existing battle. As I stated in this thesis, the ultimate and direct reason for emergence of e-bank is financial innovation. The need for financial service caused by the development of electronic business is the necessary condition of the emergence and development of e-bank. The popularity of internet and the increasing consummation of IT technology provided sufficient condition of the emergence and fast development of e-bank. Effected by the two conditions, e-bank, with the unique advantage of low cost, big capability, fast speed of processing and without the limitation of time and space, is vigorously developing. And the development of e-bank promotes the further development of electronic business and the web. They advanced each other, and put forward the great revolution of distributed chain of all social resource. The China Merchants Bank is the originator of e-bank in China. In early days, they suddenly rise with the advantage of technology. In addition, they have advanced project and administrative ideas, so their superiority has been obvious so far. The Industrial and Commercial Bank of china, as well as other commercial banks, follows on the heels. They made an issue of the integration of electronic and physical sites, and help the banking in our whole country rapidly develop. Based on the summary of the course of development in Chinese e-banking, the text analyzes the feature of e-bank and the existent problems.Compared with some mature e-bank abroad, we still fall behind. In the text, I analyze the status quo of the development of American, European and Japanesee-bank and the inspiration they brought us. However, we have our own feature, the pattern of "mouse + cement". Though e-bank has the unexampled advantage which traditional banks don't have, simplex e-bank has its inherent limitation, and not suitable for the unpopularity of internet and conservative people. The commercial banks in China happened to step on the short cut and applied road of pursuing maximum total benefit. With the promised time limit of joining the WTO coming soon, commercial banks of China dominate mostly physical sites, while e-bank will be a new field for all banks. We must realize that in the vigorous development of e-bank there are some intractable problems, such as leading as own products but not the customers' needs, the serious sameness of products and service, the interaction with customers, the guarantee of business security and so on. The existence of such problems will get in the way of further development of e-bank.To make e-bank in China develop in long range, in my opinion, first of all, we should improve the understanding of e-bank, definitude the developing idea, make our own brands. Next, we should be centered at the customers' need, and based on the net, and ingredient the existing products and channel to make our customers experience the consolidation and satisfaction. Meanwhile, the supervise on e-bank should be strengthen in order to prevent from the new risks. Thus, e-bank in China can get continuable developed.
