The rapid economic growth in China brings the boom of construction industry, and also creates a mass of pollution. The building has consumed lots of resources and created serious pollutions during the life of building, i.e. air pollution, water pollution, solid garbage and noise pollution. Therefore, we should not only think the building as the product, but also comprehensively analyze its impacting activities and factors on environment during the whole life cycle of the building. Based on them, corresponding transforms should be made, and the sustainable development of construction industry could be realized. Life Cycle Assessment, based on the whole life cycle of the product or the service is an effective methodology of analyzing the reduction of resources consumption and environment pollutions.Life Cycle Assessment is regarded as the most effective tool of environmental management in the 21st century. It seeks the opportunities of reducing and eliminating these impacts on environment through evaluating them comprehensively and scientifically from cradle to grave Firstly, the resource consumption and environment pollution need to be distinguished. Secondly, the environmental impacts of these consumption and pollution need to be evaluated. By introducing and applying the assessment on the building, environmental impact analysis based on Life Cycle Assessment benefits for promoting the sustainable development of construction industry. The methodology this thesis takes is both qualative and quantantive. Based on the framework of Life Cycle Assessment, the life cycle stages of the building is researched sysmetically. Then a system of Life Cycle Assessment on the building is put forword. Finally a case study, Inovation Edifice of Dalian University of Technology, is employed. What should be pointed is that because the referred data in the life cycle of building is very complicated, and the essential resources consumption and environment pollutions are produced only in the stages of construction, use and dismantling while they are not produced in the stage of design although the stage of design has serious impact on the whole life cycle of building. The system boundary should be restricted because of the gain and quality of the collected data andthe purpose of the research. This thesis analyses not quantantively but qualatively the stage of design which is accounted in more detail in the part of improvement, mainly analyzes the three stages of construction, use and dismantling. By adopting Analytic Hierarchy Process to calculate the weights in the Impact Assessment, the thesis analyses and indentifies the stage which has the greatest impact on environmental and its environmental impact. Based the outcome of this study, we can see that Green Building has the important significance in reducing resources consumption and environment pollutions.
