The Study On The Feasibility & Prospects Of East Asian Monetary Cooperation

After the development of the Bretton Woods System and the Jamaica system, under the background of global finance integrated, it appears regional exchange rate coordinate arrangement and regional monetary cooperation. The successes of Euros and the "dollarisation" of Latin American countries are the obvious trends of the regional currency cooperation. As an important polar of international economy, it is necessary for Asia various countries (or area) to strengthen financial coordination and cooperate in of this area. Especially after the financial crisis in 1997, the countries in Asia all realize the importance of the currency cooperation in Asia, and which will help to coordinate the monetary policy with each other and avoid the financial crisis. Although it is a general trends to take the East Asian monetary cooperation, there still exist many practical difficulties and encumbrance factors.This paper will begin with the presentation of world monetary system, and then make introduction of the current regional monetary cooperation. I will focus to describe the monetary cooperation in East Asia. With the comparison of the monetary cooperation in East Asia and Europe, we can make a reasonable evaluation of the feasibility of the target on East Asian monetary cooperation. According to the target analysis, we hope to find out a suitable pathway for East Asian monetary cooperation. As the biggest developing country in Asia, China should take positive actions to devote into Asian monetary cooperation, enhance the economic cooperation with other countries outside, consummate national economy and financial market inside, and play an important role that we should do in this regional cooperation.This thesis is divided into three parts.Part I: The meaning, importance of East Asian monetary cooperation will be mentioned. And the existing research in the world, the method and structure of this thesis will also be introduced. The part will give a general description for readers and the following content.Part II is the main text of the thesis and divided into 5 chapters.Chapter one is the comment of international monetary system and regional monetary cooperation trend. Introduce the main monetary areas in the world, point out the reasons of making regional monetary cooperation under today's international finance condition.Chapter two will introduce the development and situation of East Asian monetary cooperation.
