Based on the identification of480specimens collected from21provinces and depositedin HMAS-L, HKAS, NNU, this paper conducted a comprehensive taxonomic research on thehairy species and related taxa of Leptogium, using the methods of morphology, anatomy andgeography. Twenty-eight species were recognized in this study. Among them, Leptogium weiiH.J. Liu&S. Guan is new to Science. Seven species are new to China, viz.: L. askotense, L.coralloideum, L. javanicum, L. malmei, L. pseudofurfuraceum, L. subazureum and L. subtile.Three species new to mainland China are L. austroamericanum, L sessile and L.trichophoroides.The results show that the hairy species and related taxa of Leptogium are widelydistributed in China. Especially in southwest China, there are24species, which amount toabout85.7%of the total species number in China. In addition,17species were found inNortheast China (60.7%of the total in China),13spciess in Central China (46.4%),6inNorthwest China (21.4%),7in South China (25.0%), and5in North China (17.9%). Theuniversality of the distribution of the hairy species and related taxa of Leptogium is related tothe environment diversity and the high adaptability of the hairy species to environment. For each species, loacality are mapped, photoes for morphology and anatomy areprovided. The morphology, anatomy and geography are discussed and compared among thespecies. A key to the species is present. A database for specimens and phenotypescharacteristics on the basis of identification of Chinese materials are established for the futurestudy.
