In recent years, left-handed materials (LHMs) have become a novel researchhotspot in electromagnetics field. It can improve the performance of microwavecomponents obviously due to its unique double-negative characteristics (negativepermittivity and negative permeability simultaneously). The preparation methods ofLHMs include the resonance unit and transmission lines structure composed of splitring resonators and fine copper wires. In this paper, the LHMs with the transmission lines structure composed ofnon-resonance unit are studied. A novel structure with composited right left handedtransmission line (CRLH TL) is proposed. The characteristics and physical realizationare introduced. Two kinds of filters with the novel transmission lines structure aredesigned and simulated. They are a band pass filter applied for ultra wide-band (UWB)system and a dual-band filter respectively. The simulation results demonstrate that the requirements for the designparameters of two filters are satisfied. It demonstrates that the filters based on theCRLH TL can not only fulfill the requirements of smaller size, but also haveadvantage of wider bandwidth, higher performance and lower loss. Our researchreveals that the CRLH TL has a broad application prospects.
