Flexible Textile Composite is reinforced with fabric and its base material isplastic or rubber. Its unique structure led to its complex mechanical response.Flexible textile composite has been widely used in construction, sailing, airship, inflatable antenna and so on. Therefore, the study of characterization of themechanical behavior of Flexible Textile Composite has important academic valueand engineering significance. In this paper, combined with experiments, theoretical, and simulation, a study on the mechanical behavior of a polyurethane coated fabricshas been carried out.A total of15sets of tensile tests have been carried out to study the mechanicalbehavior of polyurethane coated fabric, include five kinds of load ratio, three kindsof working conditions are considered in every load ratio. Material deformation dataacquired with the help of digital image correlation techniques.Taking into account the interaction between the warp and weft yarns in thebiaxial stretching process, the normalized load ratio was introduced and a law aboutthe elastic modulus and the normalized load ratio was discovered.Based the law discovered from the tests, a material model based on thenormalized load ratio was introduced, the material model contains five unknownparameters. The material model was programming in Fortran and it was implantedinto the ABAQUS as UMAT. Compared with published experimental results, theeffectiveness of the UMAT is verified.Five unknown parameters, in the material model was solved by a Designedhybrid algorithm, and finally we got the concrete material model. In order to verify the accuracy of NLR material model, with two commonorthotropic material model, a simulation about the biaxial tests was carried out. Thecomparison showed that the material model presented in this paper has higheraccuracy.
