Electromagnetic (EM) theory is involved with an extremely wide area. Not only does it lay thetheoretical foundation of many existing inter-disciplines, but also supports the current frontierscience research and technology innovation. Based on the basic theory of EM field, this thesisstudies the properties of EM field in a variety of unconventional media and structures, anddiscusses the applications in several inter-disciplines of modern physics. The main contents and conclusions are as follows:1. Based on electromagnetism-symmetric Maxwell equations, a six-dimensional form ofMaxwell equations is given. The energy inequality about this type of equations is obtained, fromwhich the uniqueness of Cauchy initial problem of Maxwell equation is demonstrated.2. Starting from Sommerfeld radiation condition, the high-order radiation condition is obtainedby applying the expansion of divergent spherical wave. It is shown that high-order radiationcondition can improve the calculation result to higher precision.3. The rectification effect in asymmetric Kerr nonlinear photonic system is investigated. Results indicate that at the same degree of asymmetry, the asymmetry of nonlinear part has moresignificant effect on the rectification effect. Strength and area of the rectification effect will beenlarged when asymmetry factor is increased within a proper range.4. Based on London theory and EM wave function, the plane wave method is generalized totwo-dimensional superconductor-medium periodical structure. Dependence of band gap width onpenetration length and filling factor is discussed. Results indicate a wider band gap in this structure.Band gap decreases monotonically with penetration length, but not with filling factor.5. The transmission spectra of one-dimensional superconductor-dielectric Fibonacci photoniccrystal is calculated by applying transfer matrix method. Results show that when the ratio ofsuperconductor layer thickness and dielectric layer thickness is reduced, the transmission peakmoves towards the direction of low frequency. Based on the analyses of transmission spectra, acovering layer is added. The filter properties of this structure are discussed, andtemperature-controlled tunable frequency range is obtained.6. Multiple scattering of EM wave on the surface with second-order nonlinear conductivity canbe approximately regarded as Logistic map. Dynamic form of EM field is studied by adjustingparameters. Evolution procedure of field for the situation of both period and chaos is demonstrated.
