Pile foundation is the main foundation forms of offshore platforms, wind powergenerator, transmission towers and other offshore engineerings, which widely used toresist horizontal loads, such as wave load and wind load. There are many approachesto study piles under horizontal loads, p-y curve method is the most widely used inboth domestic and abroad. Researches about p-y curves of sand and clay are theearliest and the most mature, but few researches have been concerned about the newlydeposited silt in the Yellow River Delta.This paper investigated the Yellow River Delta region and concluded the p-ycurves of saturated silty soil foundation, through indoor horizontal loading test, whichused new deposited silt as foundation soil and considered the relationships among themoment of the pile shaft, the horizontal displacement and the soil reaction force.Meanwhile, by comparing with five existing p-y curves, we concluded the calculationmethod of p-y curves adapting silty soil area in Yellow River Delta.This paper reached a conclusion that the advantages of p-y curve method faroutweigh its disadvantage by introducing several calculation methods of single pileworking traits and bearing capacity under horizontal loadings in details. The principleof the model test, method for making models and calculation of the model pilebending stiffness were also been introduced. We also obtained a conclusion that theeffects of model pile embedment method, loading point and the over-consolidated soilon the p-y curve through four groups of contrast test.
