With the acceleration of urbanization, increased storm frequency, as well as thefrequent occurrence of extreme storm events, it is increasingly difficult for the currenturban drainage network system to meet the requirements of the excessive drainage, which increases the flood control burden on the city itself and downstream. Therefore, the use of advanced technology simulating urban rainstorm waterlogging process andproviding a scientific basis for rational urban planning and disaster prevention andmitigation has gradually attracted more people’s attention. Based on the review ofurban storm water model simulation study in the domestic and abroad and thecalibrated model, of which the basis data extracted by GIS, the analysis is done in theplanning area of Yunlianghe group project in Kaifeng City, which is about thesimulation results of SWMM with the waterlogging situation from different returnperiod rainfall, different rainfall patterns and different level of urbanization in theexisting drainage network system on the planning condition. From the view ofsustainability, it is suggested that we can effectively control and abatement urbanflood with LID to enhance the ability of the city resisting heavy rain. The main resultsare as follow:(1) The division method of sub-catchment in SWMM with ArcGIS hydrologicalanalysis combing Thiessen polygon method was applied in this study, which solvesthe problem of traditional division of much labor arbitrariness, while improving themodeling efficiency and model accuracy.(2) The model calibration is finished with the applicable consolidated runoffcoefficient in urban areas with scarcity of information, and validated the robustness ofthe model using different design storm return period, which ensures the applicabilityof the model.(3) We can make a comprehensive analysis of the process of urbanizationrainstorm flood and waterlogging causes in the aspects of storm characteristics, surface conditions and urban drainage network systems construction through the simulation results under different return period and pattern rainfall scenarios and levelof urbanization scenario.(4) With the role of controlling and reducing urban floods, Low ImpactDevelopment (LID) measures can reduce peak flow and delay peak time from thesource of runoff. Without changing the municipal sewer system facilities, rational useof LID measures can effectively improve the regional storm drainage system to dealwith rainstorm and to reduce the risk of urban waterlogging.
