Amygdala, consisting of13small nuclei, plays a significant role in emotion processing.5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) is highly important for the function of amygdala. Basolateral nucleus, which contains numerous5-HT type3A receptor (5-HT3AR), is one of the main structures of amygdala. It is significantly to explore the type of5-HT3AR+interneurons in the BLA.To investigate the distribution of5-HT3AR in the mouse basolateral amygdala (BLA) interneurons, we utilized immunohistochemistry and confocal scanning method to explore the distribution of5-HT3AR in the BLA interneurons of adult5-HT3AR-BACEGFP transgenic mice. The result indicated that5-HT3AR is widely distributed in the BLA. We also found5-HT3AR co-localized with CR, VIP and Reelin-expressing interneurons, but few were detected in the CB, PV or NPY-expressing interneurons. Given the facts we observed, we can safely conclude that5-HT3AR is expressed in different types of BLA interneurons and the5-HT3AR-BACEGFP transgenic mice line is useful for investigating the function of5-HT modulation in BLA.
