Alluvial valley is one of the most important local sites. A large number ofresearch show that the alluvial valley has obvious effects on the scattering of seismicwaves. The contents of study can enrich the research theory and provide guidance forengineering practice. The finite element method is a very effective numerical analysis method to extremely complex engineering structure. This paper presents a solution for surface motionof a3-D alluvial valley for incident plane SV waves by the finite element method.Firstly, it gives formula input ground motion by using the viscoelastic boundary. Then it studies the scattering of plane SV wave by the3-D valley under differentfrequencies. In this paper, it gives formula input ground motion by using theviscoelastic boundary. Compared with previous results, the accuracy of this methodand accuracy of the results have been confirmed. At last, it studies time domainresponse of the three-dimensional semi-ellipsoidal valley in the incident plane SVwave.Research results show that, due to the presence of the valley, the alluvial valleyhas obvious effects on the scattering of seismic waves. The amplification effect isparticularly evident in the alluvial valley surface. As the incident frequency increases, the seismic response of alluvial valleys tends complex. The scattering effect is veryobvious, considering the bedrock and soil stratification.
