In order to study the capacity, the applicability in different weather systems and the potentia l applications in business work of 3DVAR,3DVAR is used to retrieve the wind of different weat her systems and it’s result is comprised and analysed with the wind structure retrieved from Dua l-Doppler radar, the WPR data and the radial velocity. A subtropical squall line is analysed usin g the wind structure retrieved from Dual-Doppler radar and 3DVAR, the NCAR/NCEP reanalys is data, the automatic meteorological observation station data, the raindrop disdrometer data and the microwave radiometer data. The results show that the wind structures retrieved from 3DVAR dovetail nicely with the b asic characteristics of various types of weather and could reproduce the convergence line in the l ow levels in a squall line and cyclonic circulation in a tropical storm. The results of error analysi s indicate that the retrieval performance of wind speed and wind direction is reliable. The horizo ntal wind structure at the middle-low levels retrieved from 3DVAR matches well with the wind from WPR.The study of the thermodynamic structures of a squall line indicates that, most of guangdon g province was in the low tropospheric jet and there was obvious Vertical wind shear and water vapor convergence before the squall line came about. While the squall line came about, the atmo spheric pressure rose, temperature sudden drop, rainfall intensity and liquid water content increa sed rapidly. The convective region at lower was covered by northwest wind and the middle level was covered by northeast wind. The vertical velocity increases with height. It is the convergenc e at lower and the divergence at higher that causes the squall line process.
