Protaetia brevitarsis(Lewis) was an insect which can be seen everywhere. Its larvae were saprophagous, which can be fed on animal manure, rotting crops straw and weeds, etc. The larvae were fed with the oyster mushroom bran and the biological characteristics, intestinal bacteria and the digestive enzyme activity were studied. All these provided a theoretical basis for the conversion of the oyster mushroom bran by larvae. The main results were as follows:1、Fed with different food, Protaetia brevitarsis(Lewis)adults showed different fecundity. The adults fed with peach had the highest fecundity which was up to 78.24; the adults fed with pear had the least fecundity. When the bran moisture was 50%, the mean number of eggs per female was 88.3, and the spawning period was 60~85 d. At 30℃, when the bran moisture was 45%, larvae had the highest hatching rate reached 86.5%, hatched after 8.12 d.2、The most suitable temperature for larvae feeding was 28℃and the most suitable moisture was 60%. With feed ratio of 9.15%(larvae weight/ the weight of oyster mushroom bran) larvae had a better conversion. Under this condition, per 100 g larvae could consume 118.89 g mushroom bran; gained 10.38 g weight and produceed frass 96.32 g. Three instars larvae showed no significant differences in digestibility and conversion aspects; the utilization of the 3rd instar larvae was 8.74% which was the highest.3、The activity of exo-β-1, 4-glucanase, β-1, 4-glucosidase and Protease in instar larvae had no significant differences; Endo-β-1, 4- glucanase activity of the 3rd instar larvae was 97.35 U·g-1 that was higher than the 1st and 2nd instar; the hemicellulose activity in the 3rd instar larva was 34.36 U·g-1, significant higher than the others.Nine bacteria strains were isolated from the intestines of the larvae of Protaetia brevitarsis(Lewis) by the traditional methods, a systematic study of its physiological and biochemical properties and 16 S rDNA technology were used. The results showed that the nine bacteria strains were Bacillus.4、Nutrient contents of the oyster mushroom bran were measured. Crude fiber in the oyster mushroom bran was 21.70%, and the crude ash was 16.80%. The protein accounted for 14.30% of dry matter and fat was 0.39%. It contained 17 essential amino acids of the oyster mushroom bran including 8 human essential amino acids and 7 nonessential amino acids. The ratio of essential to nonessential amino acids was 66.85%. The essential amino acids comprised 37.16% of the total amino acids. The glutamic acid was 1.00 g/100 g higer than the others and the methionine was only 0.05 g/100 g which was least of all amino acids.
