Based on predecessors’ research findings, this paper’s object is Shanxi Formation and He 8 section of upper Paleozoic in the east Ⅲ block of Sulige gas field. According to the basic theory of sedimentology, geophysics, using outcrop on the periphery of Ordos Basin, well drilling core, logging date, combining with district geological material, the paper studys provenance, sedimentary facie, distribution characteristics of sand body and facies models. With related regional marker, the stratum of Shanxi Formation and He 8 section was divided into Shan 1, Shan 2, the lower He8, the upper He8. The stratum shows stable distribution, little change of the thickness.Through various methods, this paper discussed the source of detritus in Shanxi Formation and He 8 section.lt turns out that the research area was mainly affected by northern provenance of basin. The protoliths were Archean and Proterozoic medium-high grade metamorphic rock in mid Yin Mountain oldland, and it was also influenced by acidity intrusion rock and metamorphic rock of eastern Yinshan ancient land.On the premise of provenance analysis, combined with sedimentary markers, single well facies, cross well facies and overall sedimentary environment of Upper Paleozoic in Ordos basin, meandering river delta is developed during desposition of Shanxi formation in the research area, and the north area is under the deltaic plain environment, south area under the deltaic front. During Shan2 period, deltaic front subfacies expand. Braided river delta is developed in He8 section, of which the outstanding feature is that large-scale (underwater)distributors near north-south derection, and presented sill-like. Generally speaking, sandbody’s distribution is controlled by sedimentary facies, thick sand formed in the the drainage line as well as the river conjunction when river channel migrated laterally and sandbodies superimpose vertically, such as Shaerli-Henan and Aihaomao-Pingqiao area.
