Modeling the spatial distribution of urban population is one of the long-term concerning issues in the field of geographic information system. China is in the stage of rapid urbanization, making a rational and scientific solution to this problem is important. By taking the registered population data within Fuzhou Third Ring road and its surrounding as sample, the thesis firstly discusses the methods of modeling spatial distribution of urban population and related data processing, then reveals the spatial distribution of Fuzhou population, and establishes the population spatial distribution models. In detail, this thesis includes the following aspects:(1) The thesis summarizes the history and current situation of urban population spatial distribution modeling field, and explains the limitations of existing research in this field from three aspects including the sample data, modeling methods, and empirical research, under the support of the population basic database and geographic information system technology, the thesis explores new ideas and complement solutions to model the spatial distribution of urban population.(2) In order to obtain the spatial population data, the thesis utilizes geocoding technology to complete the match between demographic data and geographic coordinates address. With the support of geographic information system software platform, the thesis achieves a visual representation of the spatial distribution of population data, and reveals the macroscopic characteristics of spatial population distribution based on the above study, then combined with the real situation in Fuzhou, the thesis analyzes the impact of natural, cultural, economic, policy and infrastructure factors on the spatial distribution of the population (population density).(3) By using the population geographic coordinate information data to establish Fuzhou’s multi-center population distribution model, the thesis draws the graph of demographic trends and the graph of the sub-centers’impact, according to the simulated superior values, the current situation of the city center’s development in Fuzhou is analyzed.(4) Relying on the spatial analysis function of GIS software platform, the theis transforms irregular grid of the study area with population density information into a population density unit circle decreasing from the center to the periphery. Then choosing seven kinds of possible function expressions to fit the actual population distribution curve. By comparing the fitting error of each function expression, the result shows that using the exponential function and add-power exponential function to establish the population spatial distribution model of Fuzhou have a comparative advantage. The empirical test results testify that the fitting accuracy is better than it of the existing multi-center fitting. This thesis improves the quality of urban population spatial distribution modeling.
