Urban Metabolism research is a new frontier of Urban Ecology Research, it can analysis urban internal material flow and energy flow in space and time, Which help us to research urban sustainable development and resources recycling. Aiming at the shortcomings of the previous research, the paper constructed the MFA analytical framework and methods based on GIS model. In shanghai, for example, to study the material metabolism of urban infrastructure construction, meanwhile to analysis its environmental effects, all these have provided the references value for urban material metabolism research.Bottom-up method is used in this paper, which estimates the material stock in Shanghai infrastructure construction based on the multivariate data such as GIS. To be further researched the construction waste and metabolism, finally to be studied the environmental impaction of material consumption, waste disposal and pollution gas emissions of material metabolism. There are following conclusions in this paper.(1) Shanghai has strong metabolism capacity, vigorously increasing of material stock for nearly 30 years, from the year of 1980 to 2010, material input grew 7.5 times, material stock changed 10.8 times, and solid waste increased about 253-fold in the infrastructure. By 2010, they respectively had reached 660 million,760 million and 51 million tons; there are great differences between residential building stock and transport infrastructure stock, differences also exist in the structure of material consumption. Residential construction consumption is mainly composed of gravel and bricks, transport infrastructure consumption are mainly gravel and cement.(2) There is quite different of Shanghai material stock space. In the past 30 years, material stock is gradually concentrated on:9 districts ringing the Jing’an District are the center of urban development circles, Pudong Development belt ringing the Huangpu River, with suburban satellite town development zone area of Minhang and Pudong. Overall, downtown material stock is quite high, and presented the transfer trend to the suburban regions. There is a higher residential building stock, but the uneven distribution, taking on the vast transport infrastructure distribution. Actually the total number needs to be increased, Reasonable adjustment and transfer of residential area should be strengthened, and the construction of transportation infrastructure should be expanded in the future.(3) The environmental impact of Shanghai material metabolism gradually deepens, showing a sharp increase in mineral consumption, a rapidly growth trend of municipal waste, and more serious pollution emissions. Up to the year of 2010, the consumption of ironstone and limestone of infrastructure had reached 0.89 and 0.19 million tons of, added to the huge pressures of mineral consumption; solid waste of infrastructure had reached 51 million tons. Land resources waste is still continued, there is formidable task of urban garbage; the warm and pollution emissions of infrastructure also have been increased year by year, especially 4.44 billion tons of the CO2 emissions, which cause the inconvenient climate change.
