Silver metal, characterized by strong electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, malleability, plasticity and corrosion resistance, is widely used in modern national defense field, industry application and daily life, has become a very important material for modern society.Longmengdian Silver-Lead studying area is located at the north slope of Mt. Xiong’er of Western Henan and at the structural belt of Longwangmiao-Yuepinggou. The main ore body occurs in the gneisses series of Taihua group of Archaeozoic. To the north of the studying area is giant Tieluping silver-lead deposit. With the help of research theories and methods of geochemistry and mineralogy, this paper has comprehensively studied the following aspects: ore body distribution and occurrence law; shape, thickness, and occurrence of ore bodies; ore components and contents; ore texture and structure; ore natural types and industrial types; metallogenic mechanism. The prospecting direction is also indicated in this paper.Based on the research, it is found that the lead ore in Longmengdian deposit has many kinds of minerals which can be classified into two types, metallic minerals and nonmetallic minerals. The metallic minerals include argentite, nativesilver, chlorargyrite, freibergite, electrum, pyrite, pyrrhotite, galena, cerussite, magnetite and malachite. The nonmetallic minerals include feldspar, quartz, hornblende, mica, and carbonate minerals. The silver element in the strata of Taihua group is activated and migrates under the regional metamorphism, and initially concentrates at the favorable part. The volcanic activity of Xiong’er group activates the fault zone and makes silver element migrate and concentrate again. Large scale magmatic activity of Yanshanian stage enlarges the altered zone, fills the altered zone with metallogenic materials, provides thermal source for the activation and migration of metallogenic materials and the mineral contained thermal fluid forms. The NNE strike fault belt provides room for the sediment of metal minerals and path for the rise of ore-containing thermal fluid, which forms the silver-lead deposit. The ore body characteristics, metallogenic regularities, prospecting signals and direction of the silver lead deposit are summarized in this paper.
