Definition of inertia force is disputed in academia community. According to the classical Newtonian mechanics, inertial force is a fictitious force, but inertial force is regarded as a real force from modern physical view. This paper makes mechanism research of inertia force driving through mathematical model, calculation, simulation and experiment. A general type of inertia force driving device is summarized through overseas patent. Center of mass movement theorem and Lagrange equation are used to make mathematical model as well as solve equations, and suitable software is chosen for simulation. Dean device, a typical inertia force driving mechanism, is analyzed concerning mechanism. Lagrange equation is got and motion situation is done by joint simulation of Maple and Matlab. The result queries the hypothesis of Dean, in accordance with the report from NASA. A new inertia force driving is designed, and the formulas of device displacement under different diversion are got. Two factors, diversion and initial position, are researched. The correctness of formula calculated is examined by the simulation from Adams. Under the situation of frictional contact, the device can make an unidirectional movement. Therefore, the key point of device making a unidirectional movement is the friction of outside. A real model is made, and ultrasonic ranging is used to measure the displacement of device. Stepping motor platform is made to test the friction in water. The result shows that the friction is small enough to simulate the condition of no friction contact. The motion of device on the water is equal with the calculation. The device does the reciprocating motion. The force measuring platform is established through sensor, FC3D-50, to detect the inertial force. Inertial force and impulse of the device are periodic according to the experiment results, and impulse of mechanism is not spare. The conclusion is made that such device cannot do unidirectional movement under the contact with no friction.
