Nearly horizontal layered rock slope is a very special landslide type in rocky landslide. According to the theory of the traditional mechanical equilibrium, it’s unlikely to cause a disastrous landslide due to low-angle rock stratum of this kind of rock slope. Anoversize nearly horizontal layered rock slope at a back of hydropower station dam was formed, development after the nearly horizontal bedded rock landslide, from which it can be seen that the forming conditions and formation mechanism is complicate and special. Many scholars have done some investigation about the formation mechanism of nearly horizontal bedded rock landslide to a certain extent, but most of the research object was low-angle rock landslide. Strata inclination of these two types of landslides is similar, but the geological environmental characteristics, forming conditions and formation mechanism of these two types of landslides are different. So it is necessary to investigate formation mechanism of the nearly horizontal layered rock slope.In this study, a typical nearly horizontal bedded rock landslide formed at a back of hydropower station dam was selected as research object, geological environment condition of the landslide was the research background, as ystematic research of the nearly horizontal bedded rock landslide formed in the area was conducted. On the basis of g geology, the site investigation survey, geological analysis and judgment, numerical the engineerinl simulation and other methods were integrated to study the two main problem nearly horizontal bedded rock landslide, which included formation conditions and the evolution mechanism of the nearly horizontal bedded rock landslide. The main research contents are as follows:(1)From the perspective of the engineering geological environment of landslide, the formation conditions and related influence factors of the landslide were analyzed, the microtopography of landslide, the landslide body material, landslide structure and landslide structure characteristics were elaborated. (2)Based on the significant partitions and layered characteristics of landslide, combing with the geological environment and evolution rules, the mechanics theory, the physical model test and numerical simulation and other methods were applied to verify the formation mechanism of the landslide. (3)On the basis of study of the formation mechanism of the landslide, the dynamic evolution process of the landslide was reproduced and analyzed.Through the study of the formation mechanism and evolution mechanism of nearly horizontal bedded rock landslide in this paper, it can be correctly recognize the characteristics of the landslide, evaluate the current state of the landslide, predict the future evolution trend and then formulate the corresponding engineering measures. The results of this study can provide the basis theory and reference for investigation and engineering measures for large nearly horizontal bedded rock landslide under complex conditions.
