Bats are a chiropteran and spread across the whole world which is the second largest groups after rodents. In addition, bat is the only nocturnal mammals which have naturally capable of flight. As far as is known, most of bats can prey food and navigation by the ability of acute echolocation. Except for a few bats feed on the vegetarian, most of bats feed on insects and play an important role in the ecological balance. In order to adapt to climate change, some bat species use the feature of the hibernation to keep in-house balanced.Bats are so mysterious that it is vital to study their features, but no comprehensive data repositories or analysis tools are available for bat genes currently. To make up for the defect and further to explain both explicit and implicit genetic changes related to bat-specific traits, we have constructed the first bat genomes database, namely BGD.BGD offers a comprehensive efficient searching function and other power bioinformatics tools, including the below several aspects:Firstly, to search for the function genes, user can give gene symbol or BGD ID or NCBI gene id or Ensembl gene id.Secondly, to scan the gene component, user can use GBrowse (Generic Genome Browser) which can be used to visualize genome regions.Thirdly, to scan the co-linear regions of multiple genomes, user can use GBrowse_syn (Generic Synteny browser) which can be used to visualize genome regions.Fourthly, to carry out phylogeny analysis which is used for exploring the evolution history, user can give the sequence information. Finally, to find out bat homologous gene, user can use BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool) tool.A large amount of gene sequences are stored so that the user can find the related gene coding sequences information easily. To support the phylogeny tree analysis, the user is able to upload the owner species gene sequences file or paste a list of interesting species gene sequences to find out the phylogenetic relationship of evolution. Besides the above features, the user can download the interesting gene sequences to carry out the subsequence analysis for other purposes.
