The basic principle of focusing inversion is to constrain the density anomalies to specific areas by introducing minimum volume and moment of inertia constrains into the inversion process, thus the interpreter can distinguish the interfaces of different geological bodies and locate the density anomalies more accurately.First we did some basic research on inversion of potential field data in this paper. We realized the conventional inversion algorithm based on the smoothest model and depth weighing constrains. Also we realized the focusing inversion based on the minimum volume and moment of inertia constrains and had deeper understanding on features of different inversion methods by comparing results of focusing inversion and smooth inversion.Furthermore, we obtained improved results by introducing depth weighing to the focusing inversion based on the basic theory of it. We developed the focusing inversion algorithm constrained by multiple axes and axes with finite length after investigating the minimum moment of inertia focusing inversion. Finally, we evaluated the advantages and disadvantages of the focusing inversion constrained by axes by synthetic data tests, in terms of size of subspace grid, as well as parameters, number and length of the axes used to constrain the inversion process, respectively, so as to provide strong basis for more reasonable and more effective usage of the inversion method.
