A Study For Reliability Degree Of Balsa Sandwich Panels And An Experiment

With the popularization of balsa sandwich panels, it is more and more important to study the reliability of balsa sandwich panels. For some important areas, aerospace, military industry, transportation, construction, etc, the working environments of balsa sandwich panels are harsh, and the randomness of loads and constraints are great, and the discrete nature of materials can not be ignored, so it is necessary to research the reliability of balsa sandwich panels. Firstly, we make use of higher-order sandwich plate theory to analyze the mechanism of balsa sandwich plate, then, on this basis, propose some methods for analyzing the degree of reliability of balsa sandwich panels, providing a reference for a further study of the reliability of balsa sandwich plate structure. The main contents in this paper are:(1)we use the Higher-order Sandwich Plate Theory to analyze the mechanism of balsa sandwich panels, take an example of a simply supported balsa sandwich panel under a transverse concentrated load, proposed approaches for solving limit state functions of balsa sandwich plates.(2)On the basis of having limit state functions of a balsa sandwich plate, drawing on the Response Surface Method, the Advanced First-order Second-moment Method and the Monte Carlo Method, we propose methods for researching the degree of reliability of balsa sandwich panels:a response surface method based on the Butcher Design of Experiments, a first-order second-moment method and a Monte Carlo method based on the Higher-order Sandwich Plate Theory. Meantime we take an instance of calculating the reliability and the sensitivity of various random variables for a simply supported balsa sandwich plate under a transverse concentrated load.(3) On the basis of the Stochastic Finite Element Method, we study the degree of reliability of balsa sandwich plates by ANSYS. In the process of a simulation for reliability of simply supported balsa sandwich panels under a concentrated transverse load, we make use of the Monte Carlo Method.(4)We test a destruction experiment of simply supported balsa sandwich panels under a transverse concentrated load, verifying the validity of reliability degree analysis methods for balsa sandwich plates in this paper. According to the experimental phenomena, we divide balsa sandwich panels into three quality categories in engineering applications. We also define a concept named "adhesive strength index".In summary, this paper study the reliability degree analysis method for balsa sandwich panels from theory, simulation, experiment and other aspects, results of this study to assess the reliability of balsa sandwich panels, life prediction and reliability design reference. The results of this study provide a reference for applicability study, durability research and reliability design for balsa sandwich panels.
