Imaging logging has important application value and broad prospects fordevelopment in formation evaluation and geological analysis. Since the new century,developing imaging logging equipments and the processing software systems, inpossession of intellectual property, has become a trend. To seize the opportunity,Daqing Wireline Logging Company, in cooperation with some private enterprises, hassuccessfully developed a new generation of eight-arm electrical Imager (temporarilyreferenced as WYMI in this article), while carrying out an in-depth study onprocessing and interpretation of WYMI, based on the platform of exploratory dataprocessing and interpretation, which is the original intention of this paper.Basic research of imaging logging processing and interpretation is the premise forspecific tools, so an in-depth study of the electrical imaging data processingalgorithms and software implementation were made first. Basic preprocessing andimage generation method were reviewed. Quantitative algorithms including dipcalculation, fracture parameter determination and spectral analysis of porosity werethe main focus. Furthermore, quality check utilities, acceleration correction and3-Ddynamic imaging were studied. The international problem, acceleration correction,was solved, and the processing results of FMI, XRMI, STAR data are consistent withSchlumberger GeoFrame software. The electric button array drawing and3-Ddynamic imaging also got good effects.On the basis of method research, software implementation were completed. Inview of the particularity of WYMI, much targeted processing study was conducted.For tool evaluation, much processing and interpretation of a large number of field datawas done and many problems were identified and solved, each processing module hasachieved good effect.Finally, development direction of processing and interpretation of imaging logging and related applied evaluation techniques were analyzed and discussed.
