Resources are rich in Brahmaputra basin, particularly concentrated in itsdownstream. The development of the Brahmaputra basin’s hydropower andconstruction is of great significance for the improvement of local electricity shortagesand economic situation in Tibet. With the rise of major engineering and precision engineering construction, especially in recent years,as China natural gas and electric power and water diversionproject started, growing importance of active tectonics and assessment on the tectonicstability are made on the fault activity issues of the construction area, and graduallydemand quantitative data related, which requires the study of fault’ activity andassessment on the tectonic stability change from qualitative to quantitative researchareas as quickly as possible. Therefore,in order to solve the practical problems ofconstruction, this paper focuses on the spatial distribution of major faults and fault’activity. And uses the method of fuzzy mathematics combined with GIS tools trying todo a quantitative assessment on regional tectonic stability. This paper uses the geometry, deformation, dynamics analysis of geologicalstructure, integrated the use of remote sensing geology, engineering geology, geophysics, earthquake geology and other means comprehensive (regionalstratigraphy, regional rock, regional tectonics, deep structure and geophysicalfield), new structural characteristics of the study area geological background(including earthquake geology, crustal deformation, The new structuregeomorphology),regional faults and activity were investigated. In particular, thestudy focused on active faults of the area.Research on active faults in the region includes two aspects:First, the research ofthe spatial distribution characteristics of active faults, the geometry and structuraldeformation. The main method is the regional geological survey conducted fieldwork. For significant active fault of the study area,we adopt to the gas measurement toverify. Secondly, the research of activity of the active faults. This mainly based onthe field geological survey, also used the methods of gas measurement,ESR,SEM,etc. to study. This Integrated approach of fault activity conducted a comprehensivestudy. On the basis of the comprehensive study, we use geological analysis (qualitative), fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method (quantitative) and thecombination of GIS tools made a assessment on the tectonic stability of milin region. And it’s the first time when we made this assessment on the tectonic stability ofMiLin region. We divide thetectonic stability of MiLin region into four level:stability,relative-stability,relative-unstability,unstability.And then we generate the regionaltectonic stability map of the area. The purpose of this paper is to identify the regional spatial distribution andactivity of the main active fault in the Millin of Brahmaputra basin.Above all, wecould finally made a initial assessment on the tectonic stability of Milin region, whichis expected to be able to provide basic data and technical support for policy-making,design of department, the selection of railway line, the selection of hydropowerprojects site and the feasibility of construction and so on. All in all, this researchwill generate huge economic and social benefits. And benefit us all ultimately.
