SUMO (Small ubiquitin-related modifier) family proteins function bybecoming covalently attached to other proteins as post-translational modifications which plays a crucial role in vivo. SUMOs constitute a highly conserved protein family found in all eukaryotesand are required for viability of most eukaryotic cells.lt has three SUMO genes in chicken which contains SUMO1,SUMO2,SUMO3. SUMO modifies many proteins that participate in diverse cellular processes including transcriptional regulation, nuclear transport, maintenance of genome integrity, and signal transduction.Unlikeub,SUMO modification can enhance protein stability rather than mediate protein degradation, although SUMOylation and ubiquitinnation is very similar.Recently,we foundsome study also found that SUMO can significantly enhance the soluble of some proteins as a fusion tag.The cunent study constructed and obtained some fusion proteins of SUMOs-GST,6xHis-SUMOs-GST,6xHis-SUMOs-PLA2.The high purity SUMO fusion proteins have been obtained and they could be cut successfully by the SENP1and are functional as protein substrates.
