The paper researches from the perspective of vegetation and soil penetrationstudy due to ALSO PALSAR Dual Polarization Data; in terms of the two points—backscattering intensity and polarimetric target decomposition, the shallow coverageareas’ geological information has been recognized and extraction. As the polarizedwave has strong penetrating power, applying the polarization SAR data is able toacquire the polarization information of geologic bodies in the shallow coverage; thepolarization radar owns the capability of all-time and all-weather, high resolutionand the vegetation and shallow ground penetrability. Consequently, there are uniqueadvantages in the aspects, such as the detection of underground lake in the desert, the study of channel migration and exploration concealed geological structure.Due to the differences of terrain target geometry structure and the location, thepolarization SAR receives the echoes including not only backscattering on account ofits own characteristics but backscattering echoes of covering. Besides, with theunique imagine mechanism of the polarization SAR, indicating objects’ parameterscan be extracted from the complex echoes. The paper focuses on the two aspectsresearch: polarized wave penetration as well as the feature of polarization echoes ongeologic bodies in the shallow coverage. By the research of geologic bodies in theshallow coverage, Obaga area, the achievements are as below:1.The A1OS PALSAR Dual Polarization Data images selected in the research existserious speckle noises and compression phenomenon, so the image speckles shouldbe suppressed in order to ensure that the image processing can get a better precision inthe final when processing. Based on analyzing the coherent statistical properties, images should be multilook-processed, which has improved the resolution of thePolarization SAR Images. To decline the speckle noises of the images, severalcommon filtering ways have been adopted: Lee Filtering, Frost Filtering, GammaFiltering and Enhanced Lee Filtering. Having been compared with the accuracy offiltering algorithm of four filtering ways as is mentioned, we can draw a conclusionthat the Enhanced Lee Filtering has the best effectiveness in keeping image detailsand removing speckle noises. 2.The researcher has selected sets of stripped research zones, made statistical andcontrast analysis on data that are in different polarizations and selection directions, and finally concluded that the surface features’ backscattering has the rule. What’smore, using backscattering intensity coefficient in changing numbers, theresearcher has set up the equation of linear regression of the backscattering intensitycoefficient of the shallow coverage areas’ geological bodies.3.Extract the polarization scattering characteristics parameter of the target. Based onthe research of the matrix (the polarization scattering matrix and covariance matrix),decompose the data eigenvalue aiming at the Dual Polarization SAR Data’scharacteristics, so that we can analyze the scattering characteristics of the groundobjects effectively. Ultimately, it can be proved that it is an effective means to theresearch of the shallow coverage areas’ geological bodies information based onpolarimetric target decomposition.
