Changes of landscape pattern based on land use is the common effect of various factors of human activities, the social and economic development and n atural activities and results. Study on the characteristics of land use change and driving force factor contributes to protect the ecological environment and pro mote the sustainable development of human-resources-environment. Jianggan Dis trict located in the eastern city of Hangzhou, is a key area in Hangzhou "city expansion". In recent years, the implementation of "decisive development along the Yangtze River, the East" policy which has injected new vitality to the dev elopment of Jianggan District, makes the society, economy, science and technol ogy strength increase substantially, and Jianggan District becomes a strong econ omic zone of Hangzhou City. But at the same time, the land use structure has changed greatly, the contradiction between land supply and demand increasing. This paper embarks from the perspective of theory and practice, using remote sensing images(from year1991,2000and2010) as basic data source, in the support of RS and GIS technology, analyes and researches characteristics of Ian d use pattern change and driving forces of landscape of Jianggan District by cl assifying remote sensing images, selecting and calculating landscape index. The main research results are as follows:(1)According to the2007introduction of the "land use classification syste m", combining with the spatial resolution of remote sensing data source, the Ji anggan District land is divided into agricultural land, water (and water conserv ancy facilities land), traffic land, construction land and green (green land) one of the five categories.(2)Perform Supervised Classification on three images of diffrent time by B P neural network classification method and evaluate the accuracy of the classifi cation results. The overall classification accuracy were83%,85%and87%, an d KAPPA values were0.81,0.85and0.83, which meet the minimum classifica tion accuracy.(3)Based on the FRAGSTATS software, this paper selected8indexes of la ndscape pattern, analyses and evaluates the characteristics of dynamic change o f land use and landscape pattern of Jianggan District from the spatial structure of landscape, landscape fragmentation and landscape heterogeneity. The results showed that, in the past20years, Jianggan District agricultural land, green sp ace and water area, patch area proportion all showed a trend of decrease, the degree of fragmentation increases, low dominance, while the construction and tr affic land fragmentation decreases, the dominance increased. But the landscape diversity index and evenness index in ascension, the landscape is becoming mo re and more balanced and stable.(4)According to the Jianggan District land utilization situation and the resu Its of data analysis, this paper summarizes the driving factors of land use and landscape pattern change in Jianggan District from the population, economic de velopment and policy support in three aspects.
