A Research Of The Neolithic Human Skeleton From Gouwan

The materials for research of this dissertation are excavated in the YangshaoPeriod tombs found in the archaeological site in Gouwan Group, Zhangying Village,Shangji Town, Xichuan County, Henan Province.This dissertation is based on theusing of several methods, including skeleton measurement, ethnology, paleopathologyand so on,to research the population, the race and the health condition of the materials,and to provide some information for the research of archaeology and history forreference.Chapter1:ExordiumIn this chapter, a brief introduction of the geographical background of the sitewhere the skeleton materials were excavated is given.Chapter2:The appraisal of sex and age, the study of the statistics of population.Use the method of forensic anthropology and physical anthropology to appraisethe sex and age of99individuals. The life expectancy is23.82.11urn burial werefound in the site, make the life expectancy stay at a low level. The life expectancy ofmen is32.03, and34.9for women.Chapter3:The study of skull morphology.Due to the extremely poor condition of the skeleton,especially the facial skeleton,Every skull were deformed except only one female skull.In this paper,we divide theskull according to the deformation degree of the residents,and analyze the reasons forthis situation.In this chapter,we make the observation and measurment of the oneskull,which is not deformed,and two slightly deformed skulls.Chapter4: The study of ethnologyBased on the comprehensive analysis of the observations and measurements ofthe skull,whose skull measurements are not subject to the deformation,and twoslightly deformed skulls,we investigate the racial type of the Yangshao age residentsin Gouwan site.Due to the poor condition of the skulls, the consequence may be unique.But after analysis,we get the conclusion that it has many characters ofMongoloid,and it’s closer to Eastern Asian type.Chapter5:TheArtificial toothIn this chapter, a description and analysis is made to introduce the3individuals,which have the artificial tooth.Chapter6: The study of PaleopathologyIn this chapter, a detailed survey of skeletons on trauma, degenerative disease,metabolic disease, dysplasia and oral diseases are taken.Chapter7:The research of HeightThe measurement of lime bones is taken. This chapter calculates the heights ofevery measured individual based on the maximum length of the femur.
