In recent years, with the full seal combination of SF6gas insulated electrical appliances (GIS) to get a large number of applications, effectively promoting the equipment upgrade and development of the power system. But due to the GIS in design, material, process and maintenance etc. There are some weak links and uncertain factors, there may be some defects inside the equipment. For improving the reliability and security of the GIS, combined with power system electrical equipment state overhaul, extend the blackout period of GIS equipment, preventive partial discharge on-line monitoring to get more and more attention and widely used. The main purpose of the partial discharge on-line monitoring is by identifying the discharge, such as interior, surface discharge and corona discharge, dendritic discharge caused by defects, such as understanding the problems existing in the insulation of GIS. Therefore, the partial discharge detection and fault diagnosis for evaluating the harm of discharge is very important. Because of ultrasonic detection technology in field application, the discharge signal within the electromagnetic interference resistance, GIS positioning, sensitive GIS internal aspects such as particle detection has significant advantages, has become the power system, one of the effective way to detect the partial discharge combination. In this article, through the research of GIS and the principle of partial discharge producing ultrasonic and the ultrasonic signal characteristics, according to the working principle of ultrasonic sensor and the selection of comparison, choose suitable for site test using ultrasonic sensors AIA-2, and completed based on the AIA-2survey put the defect locating method and flow chart. Combining laboratory simulation and field measurement, analysis of inductive discharge characteristics of five kinds of typical defects of GIS and the representation, summed up the defect characteristics and map, solves the defect location and judgment of the actual problem. Finally, by introducing two real cases, using ultrasonic testing technology in the handover testing timely find and locate defects, according to the state overhaul procedures, fault diagnosis, provide complete solutions for test personnel, to ensure the normal operation of equipment.
