This article designs a method of quantitative estimation of convective precipitation which is based on GIS and CINRAD/SA. First, the China’s new generation weather radar systems and its distribution are described, and introducing the characteristics and the basic data formate of CINRAD/SA. Second, the theory, the technology and the method of quantitative precipitation estimation are introduced. The reflectivity map, the constant altitude plan position indicator (CAPPI) map, the radial velocity map, the profile map of reflectivity and radial velocity and vertical accumulation of liquid water, etc, are the main products of weather detection and precipitation estimation. In order to develop these products, the C sharp program language and ArcGIS Engine component are used. The method of quantitative estimation of convective precipitation this article designs is that extracting the convective storm area and analyzing the area. Thus, the researching emphasis of this article is that how to identify the convective storm area. The algorithm of storm cell identification and tracing (SCIT) is used to identify the storm area. By analyzing the precipitation data of rain gauge and radar reflectivity, a model for quantitative estimation of convective precipitation is confirmed. This model can be used for translating the reflectivity of the convective trom area into precipitation intensity and which can be used for the study area.By the detailed analysis of the heavy rainfall in Anhui in July10,2003, comparing the data among the calculated values of the method of this article designs, the measured data of rain gauges, the calculate values of the traditional quantitative precipitation estimation model. Two conclusions are reached. First, the calculated values of this article designs are better than the traditional method. Second, the calculated values with the corrected method are still genetally lower than the measured values. Finally, the precipitation intensity maps are drawed.
