In recent years, the up-conversion luminescence has great applications and received great attentions. Re ions are suitable for up-conversion emission centers owing to their abundant electronic energy levels.Under the sensitization of Yb3+, the transitions of Er3+ are mainly situated in red and green spectral regions, and the transitions of Tm3+ are located at blue and red up-conversion spectral regions. Based on primary colors principle, great white color simulation can be achieved by adjusting the doping concentration of these three ions.Different rare-earth ions doped YAG single crystal samples have been made by the laser heated pedestal growth method (LHPG) as up-conversion materials.YAG shows many advantages such as high melting point, good mechanical performance, high thermal conductivity, stable chemical properties, etc.And it’s an excellent matrix material for it’s low absorption in infrared, visible and ultraviolet light wave band.Based on this consideration, as we prepared different ions co-doped single crystal. Firstly, the absorption spectrum was obtained under quartz lamp,and then the up-conversion property under 974nm LD excitation were discussed.The up-conversion mechanisms have been discussed in terms of experiment results:1、In the single crystal,Yb3+ has some strong absorption peaks in 900nm to 1000nm, the energy transfer among Yb3+ and the other ions prompted the up-conversion luminescence;2、Using 974nm LD as excitation source, intense green light and red light were observed from Yb3+/Er3 co-doped sample, and intense blue light and some weaker red light were observed on Yb3+/Tm3+co-doped sample;3、By adjusting the concentration of three kinds of ions and the mechanisms of tri-doped ions have been discussed in terms of up-conversion spectroscopy.In the end,we can achieved a great white light.
