China is an earthquake prone country. Earthquake attacks are frequent and intensive. Almost every year earthquake bring immeasurable losses to the national economy and people’s life and property. Until now, many outstanding earthquake researchers have been trying hard to build the fast loss assessment models. The research on fast loss assessment had been started early at home and abroad, and many excellent theories were developed. The fast earthquake loss assessment is very important for post-earthquake relief and reconstruction. In this paper, we completed the following works:1. Mainly expounded the background, significance and purpose of the research.2. Introduced the existing post-earthquake loss assessment methods, Introduce the latest dynamic in this domain.3. Fast loss assessment methods based on magnitude are discussed in details. The earthquake economic losses of the past years are converted into 2013 levels using the statistical data from the National Bureau of statistics to eliminate the impact of economic development over the years on economic losses. The post-earthquake loss data of southwest, northwest and eastern regions are analyzed respectively, in order to find suitable assessment model for different regions.4. Fast loss assessment methods based on earthquake intensity are discussed in details. The post-earthquake loss data of southwest, northwest and eastern regions are analyzed respectively to find suitable assessment model for different regions.5. The fast loss assessment methods based on both magnitude and intensity are introduced here. The fitting loss assessment model are presented and tested in which earthquake destructive power and wealth accumulation of human activities are taken into consideratin.6. The main work of this paper are summed up and the existing shortcomings of the research and the prospect and ideas for further research are pointed out.
