It has been nearly 200 years till now from the discovery of osmosis phenomenon to the successful application of reverse osmosis (RO) membrane; however, it is still a burgeoning technology in the long history of human innovation, and filtration membrane with its typical usage in seawater desalination is witnessing a strong momentum for continuous development. The unique structure design of Disk Tubular Reverse Osmosis Module (hereinafter referred to as DTRO Module) developed by Rochem and its advanced system control has substantially increased the efficiency and service life of the filtering elements. This application is playing an increasingly important role in seawater desalination and garbage disposal industries. And seen from the development tendency, membrane seawater desalination will dominate the whole industry in near future.Based on the technological characteristics of DTRO Module, combining the current processing method of membrane and the assembly method of module, the author proposed the R&D plan for the automatic equipment of membrane processing and module assembly. In designing the processing equipment of membrane, the author’s innovative combination of several graduation systems and ultrasonic welding system has solved the key technical problem of filtration membrane cutting and welding process equipment, and successfully developed a complete set of automated process equipment. The newly-developed equipment has the following functions:firstly, welding and cutting can proceed at the pace; secondly, welding and cutting can change stations automatically upon completion; thirdly, automatically reach out for raw materials and finished products. Compared with traditional membrane process equipment, this new equipment can greatly reduce the human factors’ influence over product processing and improves processing efficiency as well as the rate of final products. The equipment test result shows that the molding cycle has been cut short from 180 seconds to 24 seconds per unit, raising the efficiency by 7.5 times, and the rate of final products has been lifted from 80% to 99% and above. Meanwhile, the equipment development of compressing and locking procedures is decisive for improving the quality of module assembly. The increasing equipment automation has saved significant manpower costs and labour intensity. The research result of this paper has been put into mass production and become the main equipment for DTRO Module processing and module assembly; thus has significant value in industrial applications.
