3D modeling and visualization of coal reservoir is an important part of CBM drainage analysis and numerical simulation, which plays a key role. Involving 3D visualization of coal seam geological body, many theories are put forward by experts and scholars at home and abroad, but the data storage method in the top and bottom surfaces of corner-point grid technology is more suitable for the hierarchical structure characteristics of coal reservoir. In addition, the traditional coal geological research stores a large number of data of sampling points and contour line, so establishing a 3D model and visualization method has important practical significance with the existing data.After researching and discussing many methods of 3D modeling, it introduces the data characteristics of corner-point grid and researches the generation method of it, then focuses on level modeling based on Surfer, the process and key technology of building structure model and attribute model based on corner-point grid.According to the requirement analysis, we develop a three dimensional visualization interface of coal reservoir using C# programming language combined with Open GL graphic interface in VS2010. The software mainly includes the function of grid data reading, diversified display of graphics, generation of convex hull of point set,mesh boundary adjustment,profile making,etc. Finally, combined with the Surfer spatial data of Qinshui Basin coal bed gas field in Panzhuang area, we buid a 3D geological model, analyse the space pressure distribution by simulation and section.The results show that simulating coal reservoir 3D geological structure using corner-point grid has certain advantages, meanwhile, realizing 3D visualization of coal reservoir with Open GL can show the external morphological characteristics,the internal structure and attribute information,which has practical significance.
