The invention of Papermaking made great contribution to the world civilization. With the rapid development of papermaking industry, problems of the traditional paper industry are getting more and more obvious, such as a high consumption of water and energy, a waste of material and so on. It is significant that explore a new sheet forming method to solve the problems of traditional papermaking industry. High consistency forming is the key technology of this new method. And analysis of mechanical properties of high consistency pulp is valuable for experiment research and the structure optimization of the key equipment.Porous elastic medium theory has been applied to many fields, such as: soil mechanics, rock mechanics, biomechanics. High consistency pulp as elastic porous medium has been accepted by many scholars. Physical property of high consistency pulp, fluidization of high consistency pulp, fluid dynamics of high consistency forming and the application of the high consistency forming method has been researched at present. Based on porous elastic medium theory, the mechanical properties of high consistency pulp are simulated by the finite element analysis software.The concentration process of high consistency pulp in the open wedge area is simulated. Void ratio is obtained with different angle of the filter screen. The result is a little different from the result provided by references. The result in the references is based on that high consistency pulp is regarded as fluid. However, the result in this paper is based on that high consistency pulp is regarded as elastic porous medium and the result is simulated by the finite element analysis software.The saw-tooth channel with different structure types is simulated. Pore pressure, Mises stress, displacement and void ratio are obtained. The void ratio changes greatly and the nonuniformity degree of fiber distribution increases at a sudden expansion and gradually reduction. The results given by the simulation is consistent with the results given by the experiments. The simulation result proves that it is proper to use the finite element analysis software to analyze the mechanical behavior of high consistency pulp based on the porous elastic medium theory.
