The chimney we discussed is a kind of important unique structures in fired power plants, high,heavy and with complex load. With the development of electric power construction enterprise, Demand for thermal power chimneys also enhances unceasingly。Generally section form of chimney is the single tube of circular. For the structural form, previous single-tube chimney is designed a frustum of a cone shape to bear the weight of itself. This makes the area of the structure bottom great. When the chimney need to be overhauled, the whole factory or production line will shutdown once the single tube one stop working. This will cause great economic losses. Because of these, investigations of the conjoined chimney is very necessary.The drawback of previous conjoined chimney with circular cross section is that moment of inertia and flexural of long axis is much better than minor axis. Then the material utilization rate of long axis is very low.On the background of the chimney engineering of JiuJiang power station, combined with related theoretical analysis and finite element verify, we analyzed the force of the conjoined oval funnel and tried to optimize its structure form. The main content of this paper is as follows:(1) According to the principle of combining security and economy, the traditional chimney with circular cross section is redesigned into elliptical cross section structure.(2) We simplified the structure with materials mechanics and calculated internal force and deformation under the different combinations of wind load、 earthquake load and temperature load.(3) Combined with finite element software Ansys, using the parameters measured and the finite element model the nearest to reinforced concrete’s mechanical property, we did the finite element calculation according to the reinforced concrete chimney structure designed to get distribution rule of internal force and displacement.(4) Mutual Authentication between theory of internal force analysis and the finite element numerical simulation to get something regularity. The conclusion can provide certain theoretical basis and support for the design.(5) According to the conclusion above, we can do some optimization for the chimney structure properly.
