In 1948, the first groundwater-source heat pump built and operation in the United States, shallow geothermal energy exploitation began. By 2010, a total of 43 countries worldwide have developed and utilized such resources. There is a broad prospect for utilization of shallow geothermal energy. Since 1997, due to our government to actively guide and support, the development and utilization of shallow geothermal energy was very fast in the past 10 years. By the end of 2012, the building area of national application of shallow geothermal heating and cooling has reached more than 200 million square meters. The results of investigation and evaluation of shallow geothermal energy such as in Beijing and Tianjin shows that rich resource can be found. And widely developing and utilizing those resources will make a significant contribution to saving energy and changing the energy structure of city. But now in our country, the project of exploitation of the geothermal energy and the work of development and utilization of shallow geothermal energy exists a lot of problems, especially in complex geological conditions. Yunnan province which is in southwest China border, whose major cities are almost all located in the mountain of multiple interrupted subsidence basin or valley fill basin area, which is extremely complex geological conditions. The current code for exploitation of shallow geothermal energy cannot satisfy the demand of work in investigation and evaluation of the energy in complex geological conditions such as Yunnan etc.By comparing with the results of the subject at home and broad, we are working on the investigation and evaluation methods on shallow geothermal energy resources in complex geological conditions of Yunnan. And based on the outcome of investigation in Kunming, illustrate the specific operational procedures of methods to investigate shallow geothermal energy evaluation which will be a reference to Yunnan or other regions.This research focus on three areas including investigation and evaluation methods on shallow geothermal energy resources, regionalization of regional potential land use and resources evaluation method. Through the research on investigation methods, sum up how to indentify regional geologic conditions, groundwater resources, shallow geothermal energy storage conditions by work of data collection, field surveys, tests, testing, monitoring, etc. Through the research on regionalization of regional potential land use, clarify the work experience of establishing the evaluation system by using the preliminary findings. And according to the research on resources evaluation method, find out how to calculate and evaluate amount of resources and exploitation potential in survey areas. Finally, the results of investigation of Kunming area has shown that how the investigation and evaluation methods applied in specific projects, and has achieved the investigation profit of Kunming Areas of zoning, development and utilization of resources and potential of results.
