With the rapid development of space science and technology, The area of human exploration has been extended to space. The basic condition for human’s space exploration is the space plasma. When the spaceship re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere, a dusty plasma sheath is formed around the head of the spaceship which will lead to the communication failure between the spaceship and the control center. The spaceship will lose all communications including GPS(Global positioning system), signals, voice communication and so on. The blackout introduces significant problems related to the mission success or not, vechile tracking, electric countermeasure capability and so on. Nowadays the blackout problem is becoming increasingly important.The propagation properties of THz waves in dusty plasma has been discussed with theoretical method in this dissertation:1.The basic knowledge of plasma and dusty plasma is introduced. Then, the difference of properties within electron-ion plasma and dusty plasma is illustrated.2.The propagation properties of electromagnetic wave in plasma have been studied with several methods, including analytical solution, WKB (Wentzel-Kramer-Brillouin) method, one dimensional FDTD method and propagation matrix method. The dissertation mainly used the propagation matrix method while the derivation of other methods is also studied.3.The propagation properties of THz waves in dusty plasma are calculated by propagation matrix method. Reflection coefficients, transmission coefficients and absorption coefficients are illustrated with the change of election density, dust density, electron collision frequency, radius of dust articles, and thickness of plasma,.4.The basic properties of time-varying dusty plasma are introduced. The differences between dusty plasma and time-varying dusty plasma are presented. The propagation properties of THz waves in time varying dusty plasma are illustrated at different moments, including reflection coefficients, transmission coefficients, and absorption coefficients.
