Electronic countermeasure technology has been used more and more frequently in modern war, and it has become the key factor to affect the trend of the war.。 As commonly used passive jamming method, chaff has advantages of low cost, convenient manufacture and obvious effect, and is used widely in the struggle to compete for the right to fight. People pay many attention to study on scattering characteristics of chaff clouds. This paper mainly analyzes the electromagnetic scattering characteristics of chaff clouds basing on the electromagnetic numerical method, with fast solution techniques and the motion characteristics of chaff clouds. This paper provides an effective method a design and analysis of characteristics of chaff.First of all, this paper detail introduce general solving process of method of moments (MOM) which is based on the integral equation, focus on the basic principle of equivalent dipole moment method (EDM), and get a simple impedance element expression. We analyze the accuracy and efficiency of the impedance element filling with equivalent dipole moment method (EDM). Through the calculation of sphere, cube and other examples, we know, the equivalent dipole moment method (EDM) only can greatly improve the filling speed of impedance elements, can not improve the solving speed and save storage.Then, this paper analyzes the basic principle of the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA), and obtains the important formula, The method greatly saves the computing memory, improves the convergence speed and improves the computational efficiency by using the multilayer fast multipole technique to accelerate the solving of equivalent dipole moment method (EDM). In order to more effectively solve the scattering characteristics of large discrete objects, with approximate to the equivalent dipole moment method (EDM), we propose a three-zone approximation method. Through appropriate examples, we have demonstrated the validity and efficiency of the two fast algorithm.Then, on the basis of aerodynamics, we investigate the law of motion of single chaff, and simulate the motion trajectory. According to the motion rules of single chaff, combining with the stochastic model, we study the chaff clouds under different environmental conditions with diffusion characteristics.Finally, we investigate the electromagnetic scattering characteristics of chaff clouds by the fast calculation methods, and solve specific problems. To the electromagnetic scattering characteristics of single chaff, we study the characteristics of the co-polarization and cross-polarization. We analyze electromagnetic scattering properties of the certain scale of chaff clouds under the static and dynamic, polarization properties, and broadband characteristics, including broadband and polarization characteristics. We have investigated the effect of electromagnetic scattering characteristics of different structure of chaff clouds, some useful conclusions are obtained. The effect of electromagnetic scattering characteristics of chaff clouds enclosing a cube also has been investigated finally in this paper. It has a certain reference value for the development of chaff and analyzing scattering characteristics of chaff clouds and the development of radar anti-jamming technology.
