Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) are a unique class of nanomaterial and a hot research topic in the field of nanoscience for the long time. Previous studies of carbon nanotubes mostly concentrated on the external modification. Recently, scientists start to focus on the nanoscale inner chamber of the CNTs and begin the research of infilling for CNTs. Theoretical investigations have shown that the lattice mismatch and strong exchange interaction of CNTs with the guest material across the interface should result in reordering of the guest crystal structure and passivation of the surface dangling bonds and thus yielding new and interesting physical properties. Therefore, in order to further study the physical properties of CNTs’ hollow, we must find a highly efficient and under contralled way of filling CNTs. Based on orientation of carbon nanotube array porous membrane as the starting material, we used the concentration difference, pressure difference and temperature as the driving force, prompting the reactant molecules into the inside diameter of 10 nm carbon nanotubes, and metal oxides and metal sulfides in situ filled carbon nanotubes composite structure were obtained through the chemical reaction. We discussed how to make a kind of oriented carbon nanotube/epoxy porous membrane and explored various methods which is about filled metal compounds into the CNTs. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and EDS are used to characterize the new complex. Finally, we aimed at a variety of different filling methods and filling material, compared the several kinds of treatment nanotube array/epoxy composite film method. Compared with the traditional filling method, our method with single filler, filled with high efficiency, good reproducibility, for further detailed study of filling carbon nanotubes in metal compounds properties of composite materials and its application to lay a good foundation.
