With the exploration and development of oil and gas field, complex reservoirs have become the main exploration targets at present. Low porosity and low permeability reservoirs are a kind of complex reservoirs with great development potential. In this paper, the key object is the medium-low porosity and low or ultra-low permeability reservoir in the northern part of Zhangqiang depression with more fault-blocks, complex structures, poor reservoir conditions and strong heterogeneity. Limited by the logging technology and interpretation methods, many of old wells in the studied area are lack of logging items and logging data, which has resulted in poor interpretation accuracy. Aimed at the situation mentioned above, through analyzing core data and logging curves, the logging interpretation models of the Shahai, Jiufotang and Yixian formation are established with cross-plot technique and experience formula. Then, the determination criteria of lithology are established with lithological identification and classification. The physical property and oiliness of reservoir are determined by porosity, permeability and saturation calculated by interpretation models. At the same time, the interpretational criteria of the studied area are established through logging curves, mud logging data and testing data. 181 layers of 62 wells(960.3m’s thickness) in total of Shahai and Yixian formation are revaluated with the interpretational criteria. Through the regional inter-well stratigraphic correlation, the research of oil-water distribution in the northern area of Zhangqiang depression is developed, and the results show that Jiufotang formation is seriously lost, and the oil reservoir mainly developed in the Yixian formation at the higher structural part and in the Shahai formation at the lower structural part. In accordance with the current exploration and development, 5 wells’ testing proposal for the more potential Yixian formation is put forward in terms of the analysis on potential layers in the studied area. Once the oil test for the wells is successful, at least 376m’s thickness of reservoir will be increased, which is an important basis and guarantee to increase reserve and production in oil field.
