In this thesis, the one-dimensional Burgers’ equation is semi-discretized by method of lines (MOL) into a system of first order differential equations using two schemes of finite differences (five-point fourth order finite difference scheme and seven-point sixth order finite difference scheme). The stiff ODE system that derives from the MOL discretization is solved by MATLAB function ode15s which is based on the numerical differentiation formulas. Some examples are presented and the computed solutions are compared with some previous methods and exact solutions. |
