Deformation and failure of cataclinal rock slope is the more common form of geological disasters, it is generally believed that slip-rip and slide-bending are the main types of deformation and failure for cataclinal rock slope. Yet, another special cataclinal toppling is often overlooked, there are few researchs and attentions to such type, and need detailed in-depth investigation and research. Based on the subject of "The study for basic geological, deformation and failure features of layered rock slope", analyzed the triggering factor, formation processes and mechanism, combining two toppling deformation in the upstream of Yellow River Ci Ha hydropower station dam. Summed up the threshold of each factor corresponding to different types of toppling, using the numerical method. In order to grasp the toppling formation processes of cataclinal rock slope, predict toppling deformation type and provide a reference for further study of cataclinal rock slope toppling.Through the above-mentioned surveys and studies, the following some law and researchs:(1) Summed up the mainly toppling types of two deformation, triggering factors and formation mechanism, on the basis of the study of basic geological conditions. Summed up two types of toppling are slide-bending toppling and cantilever beam toppling, according to the site investigation. Analyze the main triggering factors, combining different types of toppling. Figured out the limit length of slope, while cataclinal rock slope toppling, using mechanics analysis.(2) Analyze the formation processes and mechanisms of two toppling types, combining the basic research deformation characteristics. According to the site survey information and data, generalize basic geology and deformation and failure characteristics. Combining deformation and failure characteristics, analyze formation mechanisms, using the method of geological evolution process and numerical.(3) Figure out the threshold values of the two types of toppling the corresponding influencing factors, based on conditions of single-factor changes and multi-factor change. On the basis of reasonability on toppling deformation mechanism, find the main factors affect the type of deformation and failure. Toppling type will be changed, with the different factors variation. Finally, obtain the toppling type of deformation corresponding to different factors, by a large number of orthogonal numerical analysis. Analyze the sensitivity of the factors, and determining factors in different types of toppling threshold.
