There are some problems of upper Guantao formation that the reservoir division is not fine enough, the reservoir heterogeneity is serious, the remaining oil distribution is complex. To solve these problems, the following research was done. Above all, reservoir subdivision and correlation was done in upper Guantao formation, and the main single layers were divided to rhythm layers. Secondly, the reservoir parameter interpretation model was built, the heterogeneity of the reservoir, especially for the distribution of interlayer and the distribution of high vadose zones was quantitative characterized. Thirdly, by the 3-d geological modeling technology, fine stratigraphic model, sedimentary facies model, interlayer model, facies-controlled attribute model, reservoir parameters time-varying model. At last, the reservoir numerical simulation was done on the experimental area, and the distribution of remaining oil was quantitative characterized, which was controlled by distribution of interlayer, displacing water multiples, the distribution of high vadose zones, and so on, the remaining oil distribution law was generalized. The following conclusions were got: 7 main single layers could be further divided into 13 rhythm layers, among them, the average sandbody thickness and the average effective thickness of Ng251,252,331,341,342,343,344 was high; according to the distribution characteristic of interlayer which is belonging to braided river facies, the interlayer was divided into random interlayer and continuous interlayer; interlayer distribution was along the channel development direction, the shape of interlayer was mainly long strips; the high vadose zone of upper Guantao formation was mainly distributed among layer bottoms of Ng344、Ng343、Ng331;as a whole, the remaining oil widely distributed and was rich partially, and the remaining recoverable reserve was abundant; interlayer heterogeneity controlled remaining oil distribution, part of the layers remaining oil was rich; the rhythmic in the layer controlled remaining oil distribution, the remaining oil in the top of layer was rich; interlayer controlled remaining oil distribution, the remaining oil was rich in part of the layers under the interlayer.
