Black titanium oxides is a non-toxic and high performance black pigments, and have important applications in the building materials and cosmetics industries. For example, the black pigment, which mascara and eyebrow pencil are made from, is designed to contact with human body directly, the security of it is very important in addition to the requirements of the chroma. Carbon black and iron black, the mostly used black pigment nowdays, both have their own drawbacks. Carbon black is difficult to disperse and contains3,4-benzopyrene which is carcinogenic. And Iron black is poor heat resistanted and magnetic. By contrast, black titanium oxides has significant advantages such as pure color, non-toxic, good heat resistance and good dispersion.Diatomite, which is mainly made of SiO2, has the characteristics of chemically stable, acid-resistanted, heat-resistanted, small density, good adsorption and dispersion, as well as suspension, good wear resistance and good electrical insulation, large specific surface area and higher oil absorption. Therefore, diatomite is a good material for filler and carrier. In the first section of this paper, black titanium oxides are prepared by liquid phase precipitation method. In order to prepare titanium oxides of uniform particles and good dispersion, orthogonal experimental methods are applied to investigate the different process parameters affecting the morphology of samples. Experiments demonstrate the optimal experimental conditions as follows:the molar concentration ratio of Ti3+to acid is2:1, the pH value is4-4.5, the concentration of sodium hydrate solution is0.5mol/L,the reaction temperature is40℃, the reaction time is1.5hour and the calcination temperature is650℃. And the typical samples are analyzed by XRD, HRSEM, BET and IR and so on.In the second section of this paper, diatomite coated with titanium oxides are prepared through method of liquid phase precipitation. Orthogonal experiments are applied to investigate the different process parameters. And the optimized parameters are found as follows:the pH value is4.5-5.0, the concentration of sodium hydrate solution is0.5mol/L, the reaction temperature is from40℃, the reaction time is1.5hour and the calcination temperature is650℃. And the typical samples are analyzedIn the last section of this paper, TiOx@TiO2@Diatomite is prepared under optimized parameters through rthogonal experiments. And the typical samples are analyzed by techniques of XRD and HRSEM.
